As dumb as

There's an expression in New Zealand," As sweet as" or "as __insert word__ as".  We had our friends Bob & Karen here in NZ for a spell. Bob offered up any gear or rod left with us as back up. "We should be ok". We declined. We also had another friend Mitch with us for a time and we ran into each other a few other dates as well. He left a couple days ago and offered to leave a 4 wt rod as back up. We'd (ok, I) broken my 4 wt rod a week ago and you think I'd accept Mitch's offer. "Nah, I'll be ok, we have a 5 and a 6 as back up". Mitch left Friday at 5pm. At about 1pm, I was using the last of our 4 wt rods and simply casting to a far bank. SNAP! There went the last 4 wt.
Let's see, two separate offers to leave extra 4 wt rods and I declined them both. As someone who has disdain for anything heavier than a 4 wt, I am now left to cast either the 5 or the 6. Good one. I think I again qualify for the "As Dumb As". Such is life.
Oh, and in case anyone is thinking "why not just take the pieces of the two broken rods and make one functional one?"   No. The rods broke at the exact same spot. Lower end of the 3 bit, right above the ferrule. In fact, I've now broken 4 or 5 Helios rods at the exact same spot. Love the rods but there's an issue for me, the rod, and my casting in there somewhere.

Bad luck Dave. I always admire both you and Amelia's skilled casting with the 4 weights. Time for a coin flip for the 5 weight. You could always cast the 4 weight line with the 6 weight rod. Now that would be challenging. Grin.

a 4 on a 6 actually works better than you think. But, the 130kmh wind norwester might have a say in that too! It's not too bad as we take turns photo/video and actually fishing, so the 5 is always up first. But, if we break it, now we'll have a problem. Can the 5 last 3 1/2 weeks? hmmmm

As an update, Serge has us covered with a 4wt of his own. Ta-Da. But, if I break his rod... really dumb as... or as unlucky as...
